I removed it and reinstalled it. Now when I try to start entourage I get the message" the identity cannot be opened with this version of entourage".
I have no idea what to do from here.

"This Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of Entourage"
This message usually means, for example, that Entourage is at 11.0, but the
saved database was saved in a more updated version. Since there was a
database format change in there, Entourage 11.0 cannot open a database
saved in later version.

Microsoft does not update each application every time an update is released.
See ³Confused over Microsoft Update Version numbers?³ for a handy script
that gives you the Office application¹s version info.

I suspect you need to download all the updates to MS Office for Entourage
2004. You can do this by using Check for Updates from the Help menu or by
going to the MS Mac web site (which I usually get to via
http://www.mactopia.com/)

As Diane said in her response, you apparently had updated to a later version
than the original Office 2004 installation when running Entourage; when you
reinstalled you went back to the original version.

Thank you - I was able to get it going again, but still have initial problem with downloading messages from Yahoo. I can send but not receive my messages any more. I get -16999 when I remedy this error then I get -17897. When I follow the steps outlined under error -17897, then I get error -16999 again. It's like a vicious circle. Please help!!!
I will also post this as a new issue. Thanks.

You didn't mention this started after you removed Office and did a
re-install in your other thread about the error. I would definitely look at
your Microsoft preferences as being the problem.
