Entourage will not send email under certain conditions

N

Nicholas Sinadinos

Running Mac OSX.5.5

I can send/receive email from my office via comcast when hardwired to
network (no wireless at office)

I can receive email at home via comcast when hardwired or wireless.
I cannot SEND at home.

Others can send/receive from my home account

I can send /receive via a Sprint data card with no changes to my settings.

Worked thru all possible fixes with comcast. Exhausted all options.

Any suggestions?

You need to update to 10.5.6

Mac OS X 10.5.6 Combo Update
(For both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs )

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

Most likely it's the advanced settings for SMTP that need to be
reconfigured.

Lots of data but not the type of account or the version of Entourage you are
using.

I checked your source and see you have: User-Agent:
Microsoft-Entourage/11.3.2.061213

If you were fully updated you would see: User-Agent:
Microsoft-Entourage/11.4.0.080122

See this page for download links to update:

I'm guessing this is an Exchange account. See these links:

Hope this helps!

As I interpret the original post, it's a Comcast POP account.
If the user is connect to a Comcast network (e.g., at home) he doesn't need
to set "SMTP server requires authentication" in Advanced Sending. If he is
on another network, however, he should have that option checked as well as
"Use same settings as receiving mail server"
At least, that's what works for me when I'm off network (and works
on-network, too).
