Entourage woes and whatnots

R

Richard Leonard

here is a cross post from discussions we are "enduring" here at Cal Poly,
Pomona -

Can you point us towards resources that will help to solve our problems
(short of blowitup'r'us-online)?

----

Some of the fixes propose setting up folks as a delegate, rather than as
just setting permissions... In the end - I'm not sure how that is different.

But when I try to assign delegate status - I get error 65486 - searching on
that in the 'net I get :

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=entourage+delegate+error+65486&hl=en&lr=&s
afe=off&client=safari&rls=en&sa=X&oi=groups&ct=title

This gets me nowhere fast -

Their fix(es) boil down to: (tailored for us)

In system preferences:
Set DNS search path include win.csupomona.edu

In Entourage settings for the Account prefs for exchange:

Set the exchange server name explicitly to one of the exchange boxen:
EX01 or EX02 (and/or so on)
Quit and restart entourage
At this point (so they say) delegates should start working again..
HOWEVER - I can't seem to get things online - or if I do get them online -
then I have to turn off SSL to do so.

And then when I get to assign delegate - I get error 64927
--------

and then this -

We have a new update from MS for Mac Office - the version is 11.2.5 - Mac
Office auto updates will pull it down..

And then there is this "small" owie... If you are updating form an older
version it may bite you - <sigh>

and then this -
(from our resident note taker - )

Shortcomings or Nuances that we can live with so long as we are aware of
them
- Notes, Tasks, Categories won¹t synchronize with Exchange
o But will sync with Palm
- Network windows pop up with synchronizes
- When you delete a calendar event, it deletes permanently.
Outlook takes it to the deleted bucket.
- Contacts won¹t synchronize all information with ExchangeŠ
(ie-missing middle initial)
- Sharing Calendars GUI
o Need to qualify the domain
o When you are opening other user¹s folders and have no
permissions, window closes and you have to go File- open other user¹s folder
again

How do you?
- Calendaring
o How does Entourage create an appt on another
calendar?
o If Outlook creates it, Entourage can edit it
o Tried delegation, owner permissions etc
o Time zones for System (PDT) and Entourage calendar
(PST) don¹t match
-We believe this was fixed in he 11.2.5
update
o How can I forward a calendar event or how does a
secretary inform what appointments she added?
- Sharing Calendar, Contacts or Inbox
o Unless named ³Calendar² or ³Contacts² or ³Inbox²,
how do you share a sub calendar or address book named something else? Is
this possible? Or do we document it¹s not possible and inform our
users?

- Read Receipts
o Globally based- not per message
o How does Entourage respond to read receipts? Does
it ask the user if you want to send a read receipt?

- Rules
o Mailing List Manager- has priority- but when do you
use this over Rules? How do you fire it now?

o Junk email rules- inconsistent behavior. Sometimes
works, sometimes not. When you apply a rule (fire now), sometimes it
takes 2 waves to do ³rule²

- Address Book
o How do you search for duplicate entries?

On the positive side
- Palm synchronization
o Works- blue tooth and all
o Easy to set up

Macbeth Act V Scene 5
MACBETH
She should have died hereafter; There would have been a time for such a
word.
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day to the last syllable of recorded
time,
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death.
Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow,
a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is
heard no more:
it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
