Entourage won't quit

Harry Lockwood

I posted this problem some time ago and didn't get any feedback, so I'm
trying again.

The problem is simple: I cannot quit Entourage in the normal fashion; I
have to force quit every time.

Will rebuilding the data base solve this problem?

Hi Harry,

sorry you got overlooked the last time you posted. It is hard to guess what
the issue might be in your case. Rebuilding the database may or may not
solve the problem, so I'd recommend trying to identify the problem first
before you consider rebuilding the database. Quitting Entourage can be
slowed down by schedules; go to Tools>Schedules and see if there are any
schedules that are set to run when you quit the application. Also, in
Tools>Accounts, double-click your account(s) and see if the checkbox next to
Empty "Deleted Items" folder on quit in the Advanced section is ticked. You
should try to find out if disabling these options solves your problem.

Thanks for the response, Michel. There isn't anything suspicious in
Schedules. I have two pop accounts and an IMAP account. Only in the
IMAP account is there an Advanced option, and there is no action called
for when quitting.

I'll try waiting much longer before jumping to a forced quit.

Have you added any notification sounds? Unless I have my sounds set to
"Microsoft Sound Set", Entourage hangs when quitting.

I did find an "untitled" schedule and eliminated. Then I was a bit more
patient - appears to be OK now. I also switched to Microsoft sounds as
suggested.

Paul,

I think that was the one that solved the problem. Thanks.

I have a similar problem, and have had for months. Nearly always must force
quit Entourage. When I try to quit all windows but Progress close, most of
the menus become greyed out, but Entourage remains open. I've waited
overnight; it does not quit. No schedules set to run at close. No IMAP
accounts set to delete on quit. Using the Microsoft sound set.

I've decided that I just have to force quit after I quit. And at that, I
must force quit TWICE to get it to really quit!

Every now and then, maybe once or twice a month, Entourage will actually
quit without forcing. I've never been able to determine any common set of
circumstances.

If I ever discover the solution, I will post it.
