Entourage Won't Send Live Links

Hi, can anyone tell me how to get my Entourage to forward live links, I
have been told to enclose links with <...... > which I tried but they
still arrive at my friends windows computer as dead links. Even when I
cut and paste a web address into the body of my emails it doesn't turn
to a live link, it just stays as an unhighlighted cut and paste, if my
friend does the same action as soon as he pastes it into the body of
his email (outlook express) it straight away turns into a live link. I
am hoping someone can tell me what I need to do to make sure the links
I send arrive as live clickable links. I am using Entourage 2004 Ver
11.3.2

Thanks very much.

Hi,

when you type URLs, you need to add the "http://" prefix, otherwise, some
e-mail clients may not be able to recognise that the text enclosed in <> is
a URL. Also, Entourage does not generate a link when you type a URL; this is
done by the e-mail client on the receiving end, so you do not have any real
control over this. As far as the cutting and pasting of URLs is concerned:
Outlook Express's HTML creation engine is more advanced than Entourage's,
and the live link feature is simply not part of Entourage's standard tools.
This is extremely annoying, and I suggest you let Microsoft know that you
want this basic feature in Entourage at some point. Just click on Help>Send
Feedback on Entourage and fill out the web form.

To give you a few more suggestions, here's the standard answer I give when
people ask about ways of inserting hyperlinks in Entourage messages:

There is currently no way of inserting a live hyperlink into an Entourage
message, at least no convenient or straightforward way. You can always
insert the URL, with the http:// prefix, and most e-mail clients should
automatically convert them to active hyperlinks.

An alternative, if you are using Entourage 2004, would be to use Word 2004
to compose your e-mail message, since you can easily create hyperlinks in
that program (select some text, then hit Cmd+K). If Entourage is configured
as your default e-mail client, you can, when you're done, go to File>Send
To>Mail Recipient (as HTML) (this is still in Word, by the way). The
downside to this method is that once the document has been passed on to
Entourage, you can no longer modify it, or add attachments.

Yet another alternative would be to use Paul Berkowitz's free AppleScript
Make Hyperlinks X, which you can download here:

If you are sending HTML messages and your recipient is in Outlook or Outlook
Express WINDOWS, they don't get Entourage's type of clickable links. If
that's the case, get

If you are sending HTML messages and your recipient is in Outlook or Outlook
Express WINDOWS, they don't get Entourage's type of clickable links.

Actually, that's no longer the case in the latest versions of Entourage.
The problem was that in HTML messages, links would not have the <a> link
tag, so they would often not be clickable on the receiving end. This issue
is fixed in Entourage 10.1.4 and later.
