Entourage wont send when iphone connected

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

When my iphone is connected, just charging itself my Entourage will not send email. I unplug the iphone and mail immediately is sent.
Does anyone have an idea why>

The two are completely unrelated, even if you're syncing contacts and
calendar.

The only reason that Entourage might not send is because it may think
your network connection isn't working. Do you have any software enabled
anywhere that would make your Mac think your iPhone is a network connection?
