Entourage won't stop synchronizing inbox with exchange & email delay...

Email Client: Exchange

Good afternoon,

We are using a hosted exchange server.

Most of our accounts work properly, but two accounts are having problems.

On these two accounts, every email message to be received is delayed anywhere from 7 to 20 minutes in being received by entourage, on those two accounts only. Messages are received by their iphones and webmail fine, then it's 7 to 20 minutes before they appear on Entourage every time.

Also, these two accounts never finish fully synchronizing the inbox. The progress window never goes away, it will pop up additional windows to show progress of other synchronizing, such as deleted items and sent items, but they quickly finish syncing and their progress windows disappear as it should.

I've tried creating their accounts on different computers with different versions of entourage and the result is always consistent. The progress window shows the inbox never finishes synchronizing and all emails are delayed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This sounds like the users may have too many items in their Inbox. This
folder is special. It gets synchronized more frequently than others.

Have a look at my blog post for ways to improve syncing:

Thanks for your reply.

He did have quite a few emails in multiple folders all on the exchange server. I copied them to local folders on his laptop and emptied the inbox. It was down to the bare minimum as far as folders go.

Still the synchronizing inbox progress window keeps spinning and all emails are delayed.

I also tried right clicking and empting the cache on the inbox…no change.

All emails eventually appear to entourage, but they all show up 7-20 minutes later than their timestamp. They all appear promptly on webmail and iphone at the time on the timestamp.

If enough time passes between emails, at night for instance, the inbox is fully synced with the exchange server. And yet, it keeps trying to sync. Any new emails will be delayed delivery to entourage.

Since the problem seems to be account specific then I suspect the
accounts may have been moved at one time from one Exchange Server to
another. This is done to better balance the load between servers.

The result of moving between servers is that the accounts are converted
to MAPI format mailboxes prior to the move but are not always converted
back to regular mailboxes. Exchange Server can convert messages from
these MAPI format stores but this comes at a cost of performance.

Contact your provider and ask if these two accounts have been moved
recently (when you first noticed the problem). If so, ask if they can
convert the mailboxes back to MIME format.

Hope this helps!
