Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

when creating a new account in Entourage. I enter all the information of my email account with hotmail. It verifies incoming mail but not outgoing. I get the following messages

Verifying incoming (POP3) mail account "(e-mail address removed)" on "pop3.live.com":
Verification Succeeded.

Verifying outgoing (SMTP) mail account "(e-mail address removed)" on "smtp.live.com":
Connecting securely to smtp.live.com

It never connects to smtp.live.com

Can you please tell me what's going on?
I tried other accounts with hotmail and get the same results.

Thank you,

Miguel

It never connects to smtp.live.com

We are seeing lots of these SMTP errors reported.

You don't have to use "smtp.live.com". You can always use your ISP's SMTP.
For example, if Comcast was your provider, you can use smtp.comcast.net

The Advanced setting are very important as well. Each ISP's requirements for
advanced setting can be found on their web site.

See this article and read over the comments for more help:

Setup Windows Live Hotmail in Entourage as a POP account

Try checking Override default SMTP port and enter 587 if the example does
not work for you.

BTW, if you are trying to connect behind a server, most likely you are being
blocked. Ask your IT guy.

After days of trying to find a fix, your statement: "Try checking Override
default SMTP port and enter 587 if the example does not work for you." worked
for me. Thanks
