Entourage X crash on launch

Entourage (v.X 10.1.6) has started has started crashing on launch. I
have tried deleting prefs and cache but to no effect. The icon bounces,
the window with the entourage logo appears, then the main window
appears and immediately crashes. Looking at the crash log, the thread
that seems to be causing the trouble (though I'm not certain I know how
to read it properly) seems to have a lot to do with things like
'coreaudio' and 'soundmanager' so could those somehow be to blame. Can
post the full crash log if that will help.

I have also tried rebuilding the database (the basic rebuild wouldn't
work so I did an advanced rebuild which completed but didn't solve the
problem. I also tried junking the font preferences (as per an ms
support article), but that had no effect either.

I'm running mac os x 10.4.2 and other office apps are working fine.

Anyway, I'm now unable to get at my saved e-mails (several hundred MB)
so I would be really grateful for any help or suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Tam

Recently, malformed junk mail has exploited a bug in the Junk Mail Filter
included with Entourage X and 2001 that causes the entire program to crash
when Entourage attempts to download and process the message. Microsoft has
posted a workaround at their web site:
<http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=837065>

Be aware that there are some types of messages that will crash any version
of Entourage regardless of whether the Junk Filter is turned on or off. If
you are crashing on receiving mail, it is likely happening because of a
corrupt message on the server. Work through the steps on the "Crashes" page
on The Entourage Help Page to resolve the problem.
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/send_receive/crashes_hangs.html>

If that doesn't work, try repairing permissions. Go to
/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select your hard disk, then
click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair Disk Permissions".

I am evaluating whether the Project Center and the sharing feature can
be used to manage forty to fifty projects. I have set up two test projects
and designated a folder on another computer (file server) as the shared
folder. When I start Entourage a window pops up telling me the program is
trying to locate the shared folder for each project. I use a lap top so I am
constantly disconnecting from the server when I go home. Upon start up in
the morning back at the office, I have to cancel each pop up. So far, with
two projects, that is easy; however, if I have fifty projects I would have
to cancel fifty windows.

What can I do to avoid the pop-up window?

Thanks for the suggestions Mickey, but they don't seem to have helped.
It looks (from the e-mail I've had from microsoft customer support)
that the only thing left may be to uninstall and the reinstall the
whole of office :(

Tam

I'm now wondering whether the problem could be a missing font. Is there
a particular font that entourage requires to be present?

Stop sharing the projects before you disconnect.

Unfortunately, this will also take a while with 50 projects :(

No more than the standard system fonts. However, some MS apps are sensitive
to corrupt fonts or duplicated fonts.

Use the 'font book' application to check for duplicates & corruption.
