Entourage X - Error Message -3280

Mark Gibson

Hi,

Have a machine at clients that can receive but not send mail via POP.

The error message is: "Connection Failure has occurred - 3280"

I have created a test account on the machine and it experiences the
same issue.

Have done an advanced rebuild of the database and problem persists.

The machine can happily connect to the file server and the Internet.

Other machines on the same subnet with the same setup are fine.

The mail server is EIMS (not Exchange).

Can anybody shed some light on this?

That is good to know but this user has an issue sending mail not
receiving it.

That often means that the server cannot be found. Go to Tools > Accounts,
open the account, and make sure that the "SMTP server" is entered correctly.
Also, click the "Advanced sending options" immediately below that field and
make sure that those options are set correctly. In particular, having the
incorrect port set or requiring SSL authentication mistakenly could generate
the error you are reporting.

I'm afraid:

softw...cosx/#tcpflow>>

Just generates an error about not being in the archive ...

More Details:

Upgraded user to Office X 10.1.9 - no change.

Removed Microsoft User Data folder and User preferences and created a
new account from scratch - no change.

Deleted and re-created user on Mail Server - no change.

Was able to send and receive email via web mail using same account on
same machine - suggesting it is an Entourage (rather than networking)
issue.

Rebuilt database again - no change.

User is currently sending mail via web mail and receiving via
Entourage - not the best of solutions.

This error is generally caused by a corrupt email on the web server,
here is what you can do.
Browse to your web server's mail account and sign in with your
username and password
Place all your email from the inbox into another folder and send your
self a test email and see if you are able to receive it in Entourage
and if so do the proccess of elimation, drag a couple of email at a
time from this folder to the inbox and click on send and receive and
see if able to receive these to determine what email is corrupt.

THE MACHINE CAN RECEIVE MAIL FINE!!!!!!!

Therefore there are no "corrupt messages" in the IN Box.

Please read what I have posted where the error happens when trying to
SEND mail.

I have looked in all of there web mail boxes (in sent, draft, etc.)
and there are no messages there.

The person can send (note "SEND") happily from their webmail account
but not from Entourage.
