entourage x exhange and imap?

Hi,

I had entourage 2004 and it used to talk to my exchange server over
https fine... well, it wasn't fine, entourage 2004 was a beast, it
crippled my mac as it just kept checking all my folders constantly and
I couldn't even type a message without it pausing every 10 seconds to
check mail on folders.

So I heard that office X was much better and am trying it. So far I
can't get entourage to talk to the exchange server at all. It keeps
giving imap errors, which is perfectly right as the exchange server
doesn't run imap, it is secure an only does rpc over https. Also
keeps asking for smtp server. I don't remember having these problems
with entourage 2004 setup at all. I have tried putting address
http://exhangeowa.domain.com and selecting secure/ssl dav just keeps
complaining about it can't contact the imap server... which I
completely don't understand as this is a pure exchange setup.

Can anyone throw some light on this?

Thanks

Office X is much older and less reliable and is no longer supported. (In
fact, Office 2004 will not be supported much longer.) I don't remember if it
even had Exchange support, but I wouldn't trust it with a current version of
Exchange.

You could try the current version, Office 2008, if you can live without VBA
macros in Excel and Word. (I can't -- or at least won't.) It is supposed to
have much better Exchange support.

Have you told Entourage that you want to define a new "Exchange" account or
did you select "E-Mail" account and then select checkbox for "Exchange" in
2nd step? This might make a diffrence, I did it first way and it works
perfectly

You're probably connecting to your Outlook Web Access (OWA) server from
within your company network. This can cause a severe performance hit for
some users.

Have a look at my blog post for optimizing Entourage to work with Exchange:

Hope this helps!
