Entourage X Palm Syncing using Categories

Hello Everybody,
I have a wish for the New Year and I'm hoping that I'm not alone on
this one. I use my Palm for personal and work purposes. I keep work
and personal stuff on my personal Palm and only work stuff in
Entourage X on my work laptop. I'd like to be able to sync only my
work stuff between the Palm and Entourage X.

I use DateBk5 on the Palm for managing appointments, tasks and
addresses. DateBk5 is category enabled for hotsyncing purposes.
Entourage X also allows you to select categories for hotsyncing. I
installed the Mac Palm Desktop 4.0 onto the laptop and then I
installed the Microsoft Handheld Syncing software in accordance with
instructions. Everything went smoothly.

I configured the Entourage conduit to supposedly "only" synchronize
based on one work-related category of interest for appointments, tasks
(to dos) and addresses. I was so delighted that I could specify just
the one category to sync. I made sure that the appropriate items in
DateBk5 and Entourage were set to this one category. I then synced.
Much to my chagrin, here's what happened:

All of my personal appts, tasks and addresses went to Entourage even
though I didn't specify any of their categories. All of my
appointments on my Palm were deleted (thank God I had a backup on my
PC). These results were not desired and unexpected.

Needless to say, I had to spend over an hour doing cleanup work.

It would be sooooo nice to be able to sync all the types of data in
just one category-sort of like what you're led to believe will happen-
between the Palm and Entourage. The good news is that the category of
interest was synced between the two devices as I hoped for, so I think
we're almost there. The only thing that I ask for from Microsoft is
to actually allow me to totally isolate all the other categories from
syncing. I don't want my office mates to know about my proctologist
appointment, et. al.

SIDE NOTE: for those of you that haven't tried this fun process, there
is a slight discrepancy in the instructions for configuring the the
Entourage conduits. They say to go to the Hotsync manager, but what
they really mean is to go to the Palm Desktop 4.0 and choose conduit
settings from the Hotsync menu item. This may eliminate a certain
amount of frustration for some of you.

Now, back to my rant:

Why did they design the conduit manager to allow you to specify
syncing on one specific category and then allow the software to xfer
all the other categories back and forth?

Any one else looking for the same thing I am? I would be happy to
provide more details to anyone with the capability to do something
about it.
Thanks,
MW

Actually, that just launches a separate program called the HotSync
Manager. You do not actually have to launch Palm Desktop.
