Entourage X will not send or receive

I am using OS 10.3.9 on a G3 iMac. My ISP is AT&T. I recently
reinstalled system software. When I follow the instructions for
software setup, I receive a message about a security problem-error 2020.
I have downloaded and installed available upgrades for OS and Entourage.
I have noticed that when I change port numbers, the pop port should be
995 but it retain the information. All other information is saved.
How can I solve the problem?

I know several ISPs have recently changed settings and many users are having
problems. See these settings for ATT Yahoo.

If the instructions above didn't help.....

This isn't a common problem so we're going to have to try things to try to
solve this. First, I want you to download the latest Apple combo updater.
Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing files. Combo updaters will
install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or do a
clean install.

Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC)
updateppc.html>

After you run the combo updater, restart your computer then run Repair
Permissions.

To use Repair Permissions:
1. Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.
2. Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions
3. Click on the icon for your boot volume.
4. Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD. Updates contain a newer versions of the application's
permissions.

Now try to test for your problem. If it still exists, you will need to
re-install Office. Use "Remove Office" rather than dragging the Office
folder to the desktop.

Let me know if you continue to have problems.

I have installed combo upgrade 10.3.9. Also, trashed Entourage X and
installed fron CD and installed update from Mactopia website.
I read and followed your instructions to setup Entourage but I still can
not receive email.
Do you have other suggestions?
Thanks,
FMack

I have installed combo upgrade 10.3.9. Also, trashed Entourage X

FYI: Mac OS X 10.3.9 is rather old, and there are bugs in it that Apple
has fixed in Mac OS X 10.4. Mac OS X 10.4. is all the way up to
10.4.10 now - you know that, right? Likewise, Entourage X is
*extremely* old, with its own share of bugs that have since been fixed
in Office 2004.

Just to be clear...could you ever receive mail with the new ATT setting
before you did the reinstall of your system software?

When you say you trashed Entourage, did you drag to trash or use "Remove
Office"? Dragging does not get invisible files.

If you have never been able to receive mail with the new security settings,
it's possible that something is broken in Entourage X that is the problem.
You could download the Entourage 2004 demo and test there to see if this is
the cause.

Entourage X Hotmail users found they could send but not receive.

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption.

I had Entourage 2004 on my computer before I erased the hard drive and
reinstalled.I had major issues with computer function. Archive and
install did not solve the problems. I lost the Entourage 2004 CD during
a move and don't want to spend more than $100 to use for 6 months
(planning to get a newer computer). I could only find Entourage X when I
unpacked so I'm using what I have.
I need to use it until I see what my options are.
I downloaded the 2004 trial and it works fine with OS 10.3.9 but is only
good for 30 days.
Do you have other suggestions?

This extra info helps.

Are you aware that Entourage X cannot import your Entourage 2004 mail? It's
a lengthy process to get mail into an older version. Exporting contacts is
easy though if you can stand to live without a lot of your older mail.

I would use Apple Mail for the interim. I see in your other mail that you
able to send with the trial for 2004 but not receive, but that's on the
trial version that's going to expire and then you'll be right back here with
no email client.

Do you have your CD key? If you do, then you could borrow a copy of Office
or download it from one of the 'sharing' sites and use your legitimate key
for the installation.

I understand about loosing things when you move. I've had similar problems.

Sorry there are no easy solutions.

I have caused some confusion. Let me try to explain.
Entourage 2004(trial version) sends and receives. It functions just as it
should but I do not have the CD key. CD key and CD were misplaced
Entourage X will send but not receive. I have the old CD and CD key for X.
Also, transferring information from Ent. X to Ent. 2004 is not required.

It's very possible that Entourage X is just not going to work with the new
changes. You obviously have the correct info and know what to enter. If that
same info is not working in Entourage X, then whatever it is that the new
security updates requires is failing in Entourage X.

You could install tcpflow to monitor the traffic between Entourage X and
your ISP to see exactly what is failing.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/tcpflow.html>

Another application I ran into recently that does the same thing but has a
different interface.

EavesDrop....Let it capture some stuff then double-click any of the lines of
text in the main window to see more detail.

I am now able to send and receive.I used advanced
options for smtp. I did not use any advanced optiond
for the pop setting.
Thanks for all the feedback.
