I'm a bit new to macs so please bear with me.
I am running OS X 10.6.2, Office 10.1.2 (upgraded after this problem
started), Entourage X on an 800 MHz G4 Powerbook with 768 MB RAM.
I got a couple of large e-mails and Entourage quit, then wouldn't
start again, giving me the two messages...
Entourage can not access your data. To attempt to fix the problem
rebuild your database.
To rebuild the database, quit all other Microsoft Office programs and
try again.
I went to Mactopia, followed the advice and did the following:
Update Office to version 10.1.2.
Turned off office notifications.
Downloaded the script to close the database daemon and ran it from the
desktop as an application.
Tried to rebuild at all these stages but holding down the option key
(I'm assuming that it is the one with the apple on it) did not have
any effect, the application started anyway then gave the messages.
Finally I removed the offending identity and database from the
Powerbook HD\users\myusername\documents\microsoft user data\Office X
identities folder.
Now Entourage will start again and I can use it but not access any of
my previous e-mails etc.
Even though it starts now, I still can't get up the dialogue which
allows you to rebuild a database.
Please can anyone help?
Cheers,
Rob
