Entrourage not importing digital certificates from email

M

Mike VanHorn

I'm using Entourage 2008 (080729).

When I receive a digitally signed email message, I go to the "View Details"
link, and then when I click the "Add to Contacts" button, I get a message
that says "The certificate was successfully added to the address book".
However, it wasn't; when I go to the entry in the address book for that
person, there is no certificate associated with the person.

Is this a known bug with this version of Entourage? I know it has worked
before, because I previously had a certificate for the one person in
question from whom I am receiving signed messages; his old cert expired, so
I deleted it and now can't save his new one.

Thanks!

This should work just fine, assuming that the certificate is not corrupted/malformed etc. Can you open the certificate file in Finder and see if it shows up correctly?

Hi Mike!

You're a version or two behind. Use Help --> Check for Updates to update
yourself and see if that fixes the issue.

Okay, I've now updated it (12.1.5, 081119), and the same thing happens when
I tell it to add the certificate to the contacts: it says it is successful,
but it doesn't actually add the certificate.

Also, now it says that I don't have a certificate, and when I try to tell it
to use my certificate for signing and encryption, I get an error that says
"Entourage did not find any vald certificates on the Mac OS keychain".
Interestingly, there are several valid certificates found through Keychain
Access, but none of the keychains are named "Mac OS".

When you view the details of the certificate in Entourage, do you see
all green check marks or does it report any problems?

Based on your details above I think I can safely assume you do have a
contact record with the correct E-mail address for the certificate.
Correct?

Yes, all the check marks are green. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong
with the certificate from the other user.

Correct?

Yes. And just to make sure, I can delete the person's record from my
contacts, and then when I click on the "Add to Contacts" in the Security
Details window, it does add them to the address book, it just doesn't add
the certificate.

To sort of bump this up, I am still unable to import certificates into
Entourage. I have done all the Office updates, and am at Version 12.1.7
(090302).

I can get a signed message from another person, and the certificate has all
the green check marks, but when I click on the button to add the certificate
to the user's entry in the address book, it doesn't do so (even though it
says it was successful).

There are no entries being generated in any logs that I can find. I'm
thinking that *something* in Entourage needs to be reset, but I don't know
what.

Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks!
