Envelope Font Size Default

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I want to set a default for envelopes to Bookman 12. I put it in Bookman 12 and hit the default key. It says do you want to change the font to Bookman 12, this will change all documents based on the NORMAL template. I click yes, but next time I open it to do an envelope it goes back to a different font and size. Thanks.

You're not changing the default font for envelopes, you're changing the
default font for the Normal Style. That isn't what you want to do.

The formatting of envelopes is controlled by 2 other styles:

1- Envelope Address, which applies to the addressee info, &

2- Envelope Return, which applies to the return address info.

Either or both of those styles are what you need to modify. To do so, go to
Format> Style..., open the list to select All Styles, click the one you want
to change then click the Modify button. Change the specs to what you wish &
be sure to check the box labeled "Add to template" -- but not the box
labeled "Automatically Update".

Okay, do I change the "style" box from normal as well? It seems like it is still switching back to the old fonts even after the change.

Both of those styles are 'based on' Normal, but that only means that
initially any changes to Normal will affect them as well. However, once you
directly modify a style -- even if it's based on Normal -- the link to the
parent style for that attribute is broken. There should be no need to modify
Normal, and once you change the font for Envelope Address any further
changes to the font used by Normal should not have any effect on the
envelope style. Select the address text on an envelope & make sure that the
Envelope Address Style is actually applied to it.

If you continue to have a problem please reply with complete details re
update level of Office as well as exactly what you're doing, where you're
doing it & how you're getting there. Also, is this a single envelope or a
Merge to envelopes? Complete details give a much clearer understanding of
what the actual cause of the problem is.
