Envelope Module is Kaput

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I have hundreds of envelope files, saved as .doc files. When I open them, they appear to have no data.

But I can see the data in BB Edit, and the data definitely exists. I can open the envelope in Pages, and the file is fine.

I ported the files to another computer with MS Word for Mac, 2008. The files are fine. They print fine.

I then tried creating a NEW envelope. Even if I use the .docx file, no data is saved.

Now to make matters truly bizarre, if I take these "blank" files, press the envelope icon, I can see the data, but the envelope will not appear on the screen. But it WILL print on an actual envelope.

I have tried using Time Machine on my MS Library files, my converter library files, the application package itself.

Other than a new install, any ideas?

Hi Tamara:

Eeeewww..... For heaven's sake don't restore individual files from Time
Machine: it is guaranteed to get file versions out of synch with each other,
and make the whole installation extremely unstable.

I suspect that you have
Word>Preferences>View>Image Placeholders switched on. Switch it off...

Anything that prints but can't be seen is usually that.

Hope this helps
