Envelope Printing Problems

J

J. King

My first post: I've read through all the previous threads to no
avail. OSX 10.3.6, Office 2004. I've tried printing an envelope
using tools>envelopes, and Envelope Wizard. Print preview shows
everything to be OK, and I've got the correct printer selected
(Okidata C5400n). On a #10 envelope, only a small portion of the
return address text is printed, and it is incorrectly located. No
delivery address text is printed. If I switch print trays to a sheet
of paper, the text is printed as it should be on an envelope....Any
suggestions or assistance is greatly appreciated..This is driving me
nuts!

It rather sounds as though the text might be printing off the actual paper
envelope, e.g., you have a center vertical feed for envelopes but Word
thinks the envelope is coming through horizontally on the left.

When it prints on the full sheet of paper, can you tell whether the location
of the text matches the way you feed the envelope?

Can you adjust the envelope feed on the printer? Or mess with the Custom...
Settings in the Tools | Envelope dialog to make sure that it matches how you
feed your envelope.

Or check for an updated printer driver, or try reinstalling yours in case it
got corrupted.

Thanks for the tips Daiya! I could print the proper text on a sheet of
paper. I ended up removing and reinstalling the printer with updated
drivers. I was able to print the envelope by selecting manual feed from
the print dialogue BUT only was successful by printing from the preview
pane. Clicking the print command from the print dialogue caused the
printer to switch trays to single sheets of paper....I think it's a
problem with Word that I should need to take such a long route to print a
silly #10 envelope....Thanks for your time

Glad to help, thanks for confirming the problem. Are you saying that even
with updated and reinstalled printer drivers, you still need to deliberately
select manual feed and print from print preview? Or did the new drivers fix
it?

I've never needed to deliberately select manual feed but I usually stick the
envelope in to trigger manual feed before I even hit print.

Sorry about the confusion...I thought I had to select manual feed, but I
don't, just confirmed that. I just reconfigured my printer to auto-select
feed trays, that way when I load an envelope in the multi-purpose tray,
setting up and printing an envelope allows the printer to know where to
grab the envelope from...Thanks again for the prompt commentary.
