Envelope sizes are wrong

I have OS X 10.4.6 and Word 2004 latest update and am trying to print
to an Apple LW 600. I can not get it to format a #10 Envelope. The
page set up has it available but the size is almost 8.5 x 11 (regular
size paper) as the listed size. I have not fooled with custom sizes but
apparently the sizes of all the available envelope types are HUGE. When
I try to print preview the envelope lookes like a letter. Any ideas
what is going on here. Word X worked fine. This is the first issue I've
had with v.2004 as it is the 1st time I used the envelope feature in
it.

Hi John -

Have you checked for an update to your printer driver? The paper sizes
offered in the list are supplied by the printer software, not by the
program. Word & most other apps simply call up the info from the driver/OS
when it is needed.

My configuration is virtually the same as yours & I have never experienced
any such issue. If the driver isn't the fix (and make certain to follow any
installation instructions to the letter) post back with more detail - such
as what happens in programs other than Word when you attempt to print
envelopes.

CyberTaz,

Printer drivers? I realize Word gets specs from the Printer
descriptions but with an Apple LW 600 and the lastest OS X 10.4.6 +
current updates installed thru Software Update, there simply isn't
anything newer available from Apple. With 2 days of troubleshooting,
this appears to be a bug with Office 2004 and Tiger.

Thanks,
John

Hi John -

If you're certain the driver is current, two other issues could be at play;

1) Drivers corrupt, so it may be a good idea to reinstall a fresh copy,

2) Preferences corrupt, also. Have you tried deleting your printer prefs?

Again, the offerings in the Page Setup dialog are simply read from the
printer software files. As much as you might prefer to blame Word/Office,
this is one of the most active forums on the web, I review the postings
almost daily, and have not seen a similar complaint.

Have you checked what's up with other app, such as TextEdit, or any other
apps that are capable of doing envelopes? What are the "troubleshooting"
steps you've taken so far?
