I posted this a few days ago on the new users group and haven't
received a reply, so I'll try here.
Since installing a new motherboard (athlon 64), a new HDD, formatting
it, clean installing XP Home, and then reinstalling applications,
everything has been working fine for the past few weeks but one thing:
Envelopes + Labels dialog box in Word 2000. When I open it from the
menu, Word blanks to the desktop, then returns back to the open box.
When I click in the return address box, the cursor goes there
momentarily before the same blanking occurs again. However, on
returning to Word the return address box won't take the cursor, so I
can't enter anything. I can use other Envelope & Label options, but on
clicking Close for an option the same blanking cycle occurs. Thus,
envelopes will print, but only with the recipient's address.
I tried it in Safe Mode, and did a Word repair install from the Control
Panel, but to no avail. Strangely, if I put the MS Office 2000 Pro CD
in on its own (not part of repair), a Windows-like chime rings most of
the way through, then stops, and then CD doesn't open in any way, not
even via Win Explorer (clicking on it in WinEx only gets the chime to
play again in part). However, other CDs work fine.
One other thing: this blanking L&E started several months ago after
doing a XP repair install. The new mb and HDD, etc., were
done *after that. Anyone have an idea? Thanks.
