EPM 2003 Alignment

I have been given the opportunity to use the EPM tool to help in
aligning a Programme of projects to the Governance of the PMO.

I was just wondering if anyone else had also done this and happened to
have any lessons learned they would like to share of ways forward or
things to perhaps avoid.

You can use custom fields on projects to capture information such as

strategical alignment
governance phase
sponsor
etc...

This fields can then be used to group and filter projects in PWA views
giving the PMO a visible "funnel" of the entire portfolio.

Portfolio Server does a better job of managing governance within the PMO.
I'd strongly recommend arranging a demonstration of this before investing in
Project Server.
