[EPM2007] cannot update a resource who changed windows login

Hi all,
I encounter a big issue on a prod server with 2300+ resources; Some
resources that we had created last year changed their window login
(after a merger); when i try to update - manually in PWA or
programmatically - windows login in PWA, EPM returns an error
"Resourcealreadyinuse".

I understand mechanism, since the login seems to be a kind of internal
key, and EPM tries to create a new user with same display name.
However, I have 650 users in this case, an users have assignments;
therefore it is impossible to delete/recreate them.

Does anybody have a clue on this ???

Out of curiosity, do you get the same error message if you attempt to change
the Windows user account information by checking out the resource in the
Enterprise Resource Pool in Project Professional 2007 (as opposed to using
the PWA interface)? Let us know what you find.
