eps files in Word

Serayah

Hi,

I have Word 2004 and have tried to insert a .eps file that originated
in Adobe Illustrator. When I insert the logo, it turns to black and
white. I was able to insert .eps files successfully in the previous
version of Word - is this feature taken out of Word 2004?
Any help appreciated.

Hi Seraya.
I've just tried recreating the scenario you described, and the graphic
didn't even show up in Word 2004, all I could see was the frame. Word seems
to be having problems with these files. When I ctrl-clicked the frame and
tried to use Word's built-in image editor, the graphic showed up, but it was
garbled. What version of Illustrator are you using? I've got Illustrator CS,
and to be honest, I never use it, so I don't know much about it. However, in
the File menu, there's the option "Save for Microsoft Office", which saves
the image in PNG format that can be imported into Word. Another suggestion
would be to open the .eps file with Preview (in OS 10.3 Panther), which
automatically converts Postscript files into PDF files. And again, no
problem with those.

PS: I've just tried dragging the .eps file into TextEdit and Nisus Writer
Express 2.1, and it was displayed correctly in those. Strange...

I'm using Illy CS too. I'm aware of the Save for Microsoft Office
command, but would still really like to be able to import .eps files
also.

Thanks for the suggestion about the postscript to pdf file via Preview
- might give that a go.

Hi Serayah:

Ensure you are using a TIFF preview and a real EPS, not an AIF. Ensure you
are not using greater than 24-bit (RGB) colour depth.

Word can't handle CMYK colour, or some versions of Illustrator: you may need
to save back a level.

Sorry: I don't know a definitive answer :)
