eps files into word 2007

Hi,

I've a got a lot of graphs done in MATLAB software and exported as .eps
files. Now comes my problem. When I insert them into word 2007 and convert it
to pdf using a postscript printer, an error occurs... Here is the log of the
error:

This do not occurs with every figures, but with most of them. I think it is
something related with some kind of incompatibility between word 2007 and eps
files. Maybe the word 2007's EPS filter is not so up to date as it should
be...
I concluded it because if I insert the same eps files into word 2003 and
print into pdf and all goes fine.

Nevertheless, I cannot use word 2003 because I'm using some of the features
of word 2007 that are not compatible with the 2003 version.

Can you help me with this issue?

I think the error is not related to the Helvetica font, since distiller gives
only a warning. The error comes after and I don't know what is the reason. I
think is some kind of word 2007's EPS filter. I said 2007's filter, but I
have the feeling that the filter that comes with word is not a new one...

I've converted all sorts of .eps files today to see if I can get your error. You
could try to reinstall the .eps filter.
The filter is in a folder similar to this
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Grphflt
Rename the EPSIMP32.FLT to EPSIMP32.OLD. Drag a new instance of the filter from
your setup disk.
It does appear the filter is newer than what is on my older computer.

Hi Anthony,

Do you have a link to one of the EPS files that is causing the issue? On a machine with only the Office 2007 EPS import filter I
didn't get the error on the Matlab produced EPS files I had available using the Office 2007 EPS Filter (EPS32Imp.flt) and an HP
Color Laser Postscript printer or a print to PDF printer.

When are you getting the error? From your description it sounds like you have already imported the graphic into Word (at which
point the EPS filter is done with the file) and then sending it to PDF?

If you use the Word 2007 Save As PDF add in or print to PDF other than to Distiller do you get the same error?


What version of Acrobat and Distiller do you have and to what update level?

What is the version number of the EPSImp32.FLT filter that is in use on the PC?

Are you using a 32 or 64 bit version of Windows?

What is happening is that Distiller is asked (in its preferences) to embed
fonts, and Helvetica, which is called for in the PostScript files sent to
Distiller, is not on your system.

So then we get into how does Helvetica get asked for anyway, since it's not
on your computer? I have a write-up on that at
<http://www.techknowledgecorp.com/help> then look along the left side for
"Where do fonts come from?"

Earlier version of the Adobe PDF driver, when it used to be called Acrobat
Distiller in the printer list, included Helvetica as a resident font. Later
versions corrected that problem. So you see, Windows can tell an application
that a font is available when it really it not; then, when it's called for in
a PostScript stream, Distiller can't find it.

And then you have the question of WHO asked for the font? Word? The EPS?
Sounds to me like it's Word. The EPS is a common element, and if the EPS
called for Helvetica, it should error out in both versions.

Of course, you could just buy Helvetica! The Adobe Type Basics is $100 for
all the fonts found on nearly all PostScript devices ever made; Helvetica ala
carte is around $25.

Hi,

I'm using Office 2007 up to date, Vista Home 32bits, Acrobat Professional
8.1 as pdf printer (but I also tried with other free applications such as
pdf995).
I can insert the eps files into Word 2007 and visualize them on the screen.
Since the pictures are created from EPS files I cannot print the document
into my deskjet without creating previously a pdf since it is needed a
postscript printer (Word 2007 Save As PDF add in do not solve this since it
is not a PS printer (it is not even a printer...) and therefore cannot
interpreter correctly the EPS code.
I've tried something that will sounds stupid, but work here in my computer:
I've imported the EPS files into Powerpoint 2007 and then I've copy them into
word and all work fine (until now...). Since the filter is the same, it
sounds a little bit strange..., perhaps is something that happens only on my
pc...

My Word2007 filter is the EPSImp32.FLT. The version I don't know but it is
dated of 26-10-2007 if it helps.
