EPS filter for Word

I read somewhere in this forum that the Publisher filter couldn't handle
previews in EPS files after Illustrator 8 (or that was how I interpreted the
information) since there was a change in how transparency was handled. Is
there any way to get previews from newer EPS files (9 - CS2) to show in Word?
Like an updated filter or something? Cause it's a bit annoying to have to
save to Illustrator 8 EPS (some text data gets lost for instance), especially
when the illustrations need updating. PNG isn't an option since the
supposedly white background prints as slightly grey. Dunno if this is an
Illustrator or Word problem though (probably Illustrator).

Hi Joakim,

Regarding the png insertion, if you select the inserted picture then use the transparency tool and click on the background, the grey
shading should disappear (provided its uniform).

As for the EPS itself, I don't have an answer other than that its preview visibility shouldn't affect the printed output. AFAIK with
Word, the Illustrator 8 issue only affected colour previews in Word 2000 and earlier. There are workarounds - one involves inserting
both a JPG and EPS file into the document and enclosing both in an IF field to switch them at print time.

Cheers

Thanks for your answer macropod.

Unfortuneatly the grey shading isn't uniform, it's more of a light grey
pattern.

The printing of CS2 EPS files works well as you said, but a visible preview,
or at least a placeholder filename, is needed so that the editor can see that
the correct illo has been placed at the correct spot.
