equal sign substituted for apostrophe

One a couple of my workstations several word documents are converting an
apostrophe to an equal sign when the document is opened. I can't seem to
find a reason for this and it does not happen with all users.
Any help?

The usual reason is that the file was converted from WordPerfect and the
apostrophe, instead of being the character from the default paragraph font,
is a WP Typographic Symbols character. The only solution is to Find and
Replace, which is easier to do on a system where the problem is evident
(where you don't see it is on systems that have this font installed).

This can happen under a couple of different situations. In each case, the
bottom line is that the system does not have the font installed from
which the apostrophe is taken. Word\Windows is substituting a font that
has an equal sign mapped to the same code position as was the apostrophe
in the originally-specified/selected font.

The work-around is to delete the equal and retype the apostrophe in an
available font. Their solution, especially if there are a large number of
affected documents, is to install the font.

I believe the font required is typoext.ttf. It is installed by Word
Perfect. The font is part of a package of WP to Word converters. I don't
know of any availability except through FTP.

WPCNV.EXE is the file name.

Hopefully, one of the Office/Word regulars or MVPs can make additional
suggestions.

FTP://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/WPCNV.EXE

Click on link. The self-extracting executable contains WP to Word
converters and some fonts.

If you wand more details on installation, let us know.
