Equation Builder well hidden in Word 2007

Hi folks

Ribbon -> Insert -> Symbols -> arrow next to 'Equation' -> Insert New Equation

I get no 'Design' tab and, therefore, no 'Structures' group, no 'Symbols'
group and no 'Tools' group.

In short, I cannot find a way to create an equation in Word 2007. All I get
is a field (with an update option) and the instruction to 'type an equation'
which is no use if I want to use mathematical symbols.

Would someone be so kind as to let me in on the secret.
All assistance appreciated.

Rick,

Ribbon -> Insert -> Symbols -> arrow next to 'Equation' -> Insert New Equation

Just click on the main part of Equation button, NOT the drop-down
arrow on the right side of it. (If you use the "Insert New Equation",
as you did, it mostly hides the Design Tab and the three groups under it.)

I get no 'Design' tab and, therefore, no 'Structures' group, no 'Symbols'
group and no 'Tools' group.

The Design tab is immediately to the right of the View tab (and
"Equation Tools" is right above Design). Both are in a light lavender
color.

We get it. You hate Word 2007. But this is a peer-to-peer forum, not
Microsoft, and your whining up the wrong tree is getting really old.

You probably clicked outside the equation box after inserting it, which
closes the Equation ribbon. Click once inside the "Type equation here"
box, click on Equation Tools: Design, and you should see the Equation
ribbon.

Or if you prefer to use the equation editor from Word 2003 and earlier,
click on Insert | Object | Create New: Object type: Microsoft Equation
3.0 | OK.

Hey Garfield

I don't 'hate' Word 2007. It's just that I am, apparently like so many
others, lost in the new interface. Things I have used in Word 2000 seem hard
to find. Functionality described in Word 2007 documentation regularly
doesn't appear (not on first sight anyway - you have to set up a certain
context to get some).

I expect that, when I get to be as good with 2007 as I am with 2000, I
shall, one day, return some of the favours I am asking now. Until then I
appreciate the help while I flounder in the dark.
