Equation Editor and Saving Issues

I often write technical papers with many equations using equation editor.
When using equation editor, word often freezes or simply will not allow me to
save. Sometimes it appears to be saving but I can't find the file after I
close it. I am using Microsoft Word 2000.

Has anyone had this problem or know of a way to fix it?

No error messages. After a few saves it just gives the message that Word
must close.

You mentioned in your original post you're using Word 2000. This
version is notorious for not deleting temporary files after it closes,
so there are likely hundreds, if not thousands, of these temporary
files related to the equations. It's worth a try to see if this is the
cause of your problem. We have an article that tells what to do.

Hi,
I just saw your message and your problem is very much like the one I've been
experiencing. I'm using Word 2003. The problem is like you describe -- I can
close out of a file, but I can't close Word. This problem started recently
after I downloaded and started using the Design Science MathType 6.0 for my
equations. I already tried re-installing Word, but it still has the same
problem. Someone else suggested a web site that shows what action to take
when Word crashes -- deleting temporary files, etc. I tried that too, but to
no avail. Although maybe I didn't do it correctly since the instructions were
incomplete. Any other suggestions?

Gollyg,

I just saw your message. I wasn't able to find a fix and I wasn't able to
use a new version of word. I started using Latex for papers with a lot of
equations:

Were you able to find a solution?
