Equation Editor broken parentheses

Hi, I'm Italian. Excuse me for my English ;o)
I work with Microsoft Word XP and I've a problem when using Equation Editor.

The problem is:
when I insert parentheses, ( ) or [ ] or { }, and into them are more than
one line, the parentheses are displayed and printed incorrectly. The
parentheses are fragmented in two or more parts.

Why?

If the parenthesis look OK on screen but are printing incorrectly, then I
would suspect the printer driver. Try seeing if there is a newer driver
available at the printer manufacturer's internet support site.

PS Your English is excellent - better than many posts from native-English
posters!

Thanks TF but, as I sayd, "the parentheses are DISPLAYED and PRINTED
incorrectly"!

Today I've installed Word 2000 and this problem doesn't apply in it: the
patentheses are displayed and printed correctly!

Why Word XP have this problem and Word 2002 not?

Maybe the operating system XP SP1?
I had a problem whit clipart gallery but I found the solution in Internet
and I've fixed it!

Thanks,
HuNoPi

That is most unusual. Design Science who write the program (the Equation
Editor is a cut down version of MathType) has a good support site. Try
asking there to see if they are aware of what may be causing this.

The problem is:

more than one line, the parentheses are displayed and

Since these symbols (we call them "fences") are created with
fonts, you could have a corrupted font. First things first
though... I'm assuming you're using the fences from the Equation
Editor "Fence Templates" palette. Otherwise you'd be using the
fences from the keyboard (i.e., Shift+9 for an open paren, etc.).
There would be no reason for those to "break". The ones from the
palette are "built" by using a top and a bottom segment, plus one
or more straight middle segments. It could be that your system is
using an incorrect font -- perhaps one that has a shorter middle
segment than Equation Editor needs.

Please check your font settings in Equation Editor. Go to the
Style menu and click Define. Make sure "Symbol" style is set to
"Symbol" font. If it's set correctly, you could have a bad Symbol
font. The best way to get a new one is to download the MathType
fonts from our web site (they're free). You can get them by
clicking the link in my signature, and clicking on "Font
installers" in the "Free Downloads" section.

Better yet -- and this will undoubtedly solve the problem --
download the free 30-day test drive of MathType. This will
install the fonts, plus you'll have full use of MathType for 30
days. You can purchase it, of course, but if you choose not to,
it will remain usable in a reduced-features "MathType Lite" mode.
MathType Lite retains all Equation Editor functionality, plus a
few extra features.
