Equation Editor causes my computer to fail to log-off

I'm new to this whole forum thing, so bear with me please. I hope this is in
the right area.

I am going to school online and am taking a math course. I need to use
equation editor in microsoft word (2003). Any time I use the equation editor
I am then unable to log-off. I have to forcefully reboot my PC. I can log
off any other time. I just can't do it after using the equation editor. What
can I do? Is this a known issue?

I suggest that you use the Task Manager to try to find which process is
failing to stop and preventing you from logging off. Right-click in the
Taskbar and choose Task Manager. Click on the processes tab to see a list of
processes running normally (before you log on). Then log on and check those
processes again (just minimise the Task Manager and leave it running whilst
doing this so that you can quickly access it by maximising). Finally, open
the Equation Editor function and check the Task Manger to see what process
it started.

Then close Task Manager and make sure the process stops. If it doesn't, in
Task Manager, right-click on the process and select End Process. If that now
allows you to log off, I suggest that you report this as a bug to the school
online support and see if they have any advice for the problem.
