Equation Editor Error Summation Signs

I am having trouble viewing and printing an equation using MS Word’s Equation
Editor. The equation contains two summation signs next to each other, that
display and print as “#†signs. In Equation Editor, they display properly,
but when I try to view the equation in the document, they show up as “#â€
signs. Previously, in the same documents, the equation displayed and printed
correctly. Does anyone have any ideas how I can correct this?

If anyone can help that would be great.

Problems like this are almost caused by a "font problem" of some kind.
The trouble is, what kind of font problem?

The first thing to check is in Equation Editor's Style menu. Make sure
the font for Symbol style is set to Symbol font. This style, as well
as L.C.Greek and U.C.Greek, should never be set to anything but
Symbol.

If that wasn't the cause of the problem, write back and let us know.

Thanks Bob. I checked and our styles say Symbol for all three of them. Let me
know if you have another idea.

Thanks

It could also be a printer driver problem. This could happen even upon
initially opening the document, and before you try to print it. When
Word opens, a lot of what it does is based on what you have set as the
default printer. Even if you don't have a printer, Office will install
a driver when you install Office. (That's one reason for the printer
labeled "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer", in case you've ever
wondered about that.)

We have an article that discusses this issue, and gives links to the
major printer manufacturers if you need to check for an updated
printer driver. It may just be that you need to re-install the one
you've got. http://www.dessci.com/en/support/mathtype/tsn/TSN77.htm
