About six months ago I went from Win98 to WinXp on a new
machine. I decided to take my MS Office 2000 with me . On
Win98 I had upgraded as far as SP-3. With all the holes
appearing in MSOffice lately I decide I'd better upgrade
MSO on the XP (not having done any upgrade yet). I went
through the sequence from SR-1 to SP-3 and then onto the
recent WP Conversion, VBA Security and Macro patches.
Then I went back to work. First time I wanted to edit an
equation I got an error saying the necessry "server"
process was unavailable.
I see that KB328613 describes this problem and recommends
updating your Norton AntiVirus. While NAV may be the
problem there is no upgrade available for NAV 2003 (Or
SystemWorks 2003) as is suggested in the article.
I've gone back through the uninstall/install process now
a few times and am certain that, if I want to be
protected from exploitation of the VBA, WP Conversion &
Macro holes in MSO, then I have to upgrade past SP-3 and
thus lose equation editing
Does anyone know an answer to this problem? Alternatives
to MSO that support scientific publishing would be of
interest.
