Equation Editor - not printing what shows on the screen

C

Chris Barnes

Using Word X on Mac OSX 10.4.

This is a strange problem - on a document with LOTS of equations
(basically a sheet to be given to students taking a physics exam), the
equations look fine on the screen.

But when they get printed (on an HP Color Laserjet 4600, using the
postscript driver), they look completely different.

Causes?
Solutions?

Hi Chris -

I expect you'll soon be getting a more authoritative answer from dessci
before long, but in the meantime make sure OS X , Office & your printer
driver are all fully updated. In case of an immediate need you might also
try generating the doc as a PDF, then printing that.

Thanks Bob.

Turns out, the user wasn't quite giving me all the correct information.

If he prints directly from Word 10, everything is fine.

If he creates an Adobe .pdf document (using Acrobat Distiller 5), then
* opens it in Acrobat 7 and prints it, everything is fine.

* opens it in Acrobat 5 and prints it, THEN what is printed does not
match what shows up on the screen.

Obviously, this is an Adobe (5) issue, not a MS Word issue. Sorry for
the interruption.... (of course, if anyone knows a quick solution - how
to make Adobe 5 print it correctly - that answer would still be
appreciated).

Hi Chris:

The Equation Editor relies on the MathType (MT) font being installed on the
machine that exports to PDF. Make sure it's present.

You might also check that there are not multiple versions of the MT font
scattered across the machine :)

Cheers
