When using the Equation Editor, superscript is not
available as an option on the Size menu dropdown.
Subscript and sub-subscript are along with a couple of
others. I can find where to change the size for
superscript but not how to select it for a character.

You don't need to change the size to enter a superscript. Just
leave the size set to "Full", and Equation Editor will adjust the
size smaller based on your settings at Size/Define. Superscripts
and subscripts are templates that are accessed on the template
bar. The "Subscript and superscript templates" is the third icon
from the left on the bottom row of palettes. (The top row is
symbols and the bottom row is templates.) Type the base first,
then the superscript. So if you wanted to type x squared, you'd
first type x, then you'd select the superscript template, then
type the 2. (On the "Subscript and superscript templates"
palette, the superscript is the one in the upper left.) After you
type the superscript, there are several ways to get out of the
superscript template, but the best way is to press the Tab key.

This is explained in more detail in the Equation Editor Help
file. Just open the Help file, and in the Index or Find section,
do a search for superscript.
