Equation Editor there but not there

Hi,

When trying to insert an equation into a Word document, nothing appears
in the insert box when I go to insert -> object. However, the equation
editor appears (and works) if, in the Finder, I go to Application ->
Microsoft Office 2004 -> Office - Equation Editor. How can I get
Office to recognize the equation editor?

Note that I did do a full install of Office (twice) and I am using Word
for Mac 2004 version 11.2.

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy

Jeremy, just to clarify -- when you say "nothing appears", do you
mean literally nothing? No objects at all? Or just not "Microsoft
Equation"? If nothing at all is in the box, you've got more problems
than just the Equation Editor not being registered as an "object".

Thanks for the reply. What I mean is that no objects appear at all.
So, yes, it is a bigger problem than just the equation editor.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, Jeremy, but you're going to have to
do another full install of Office. The problem with the previous
re-installations is that there were still remnants of the old Office
installation left lingering around, and these are most likely what
caused the problems.

First thing to do is to delete the folder that Office 2004 is
installed into. After that, you'll need to remove all references to
Office at this location:

Hard Drive/<user account name>/Library/Preferences

There are a number of files and folders in this location that are a
part of the office installation, and you'll need to get rid of all of
them. Most of these will be in the Microsoft subfolder, but don't
limit your search to that folder. Now when you reinstall Office, the
objects including Equation Editor should show up in the list. (Let me
also state the obvious by saying that you'll need to specifically
select Equation Editor during the installation, since it isn't part of
the standard installation. It's listed under "Office Tools".)
