Equation Editor Word 2007

In equation Editor in Word XP there were shortcuts to super and
sub-scripts. This doesn't seem to be the case in Word 2007 Beta 2. In
addition to this, on inserting a sub or super-script (manually), it
creates a 'space/box' for normal text, and then a another 'space/box'
for the sub-script. In doing this it also moves the cursor to the
outside of the editing boxes it has just created. This is incredibly
annoying and timewasting, as it means that everytime I want to create a
sub-script I have to move the cursor back into the normal box, type the
word, and then select the sub-script box and insert my text into there.
If anyone knows if this is a bug, or by design, and if it is going to
be sorted I would be most grateful

Hi Nathan,

Basically, the Equation Editor addin has been replaced by the Equation Tools under Insert=>Symbols.

Once you insert an equation 'zone' from that menu you should see an Equation Tools tab on the ribbon. On that ribbon there is a
'Script' choice for doing the sub/super scripts.

The older MS Equation Editor 3.0 is still available as well if you go to Insert=>Text=>Object and scroll down to the
Microsoft Equation 3.0
choice you will be in a separate editing mode for those equations with the previous toolbar. (It will also offer to take you to
information on upgrading that add-in to the 3rd party MathType add-in).

If you have an existing document with a MS Equation object in it then double clicking that in Word 2007 should also bring up the
older Equation Editor. If not, check the Microsoft Office 2007 listing in Add/Remove Programs to see if that feature has been
installed.

In Word help (F1) search on 'equation' for more information on both tools. (For those folks reading along who don't have Word 2007
installed, you can install the Active X control listed below then visit the OfficeOnline preview website and search on Equations in
the 'Help & How To' tab for the same information that is in the app help files).

Type '^' and '_' for super- and sub- scripts respectively. Use brackets to
denote what should be superscript. ( e.g. "x^(2x+1)" ) Then click the
"Professional" view to convert the abbreviation to a 'displayed' equation.
BTW, you can use '/' for fractions.
