Equation Editor

I have been building a formula sheet and when I print it the formulae are fuzzy. I have never encountered this problem before and have been using Equation Editor for a long time. I have recently upgraded to Office 2008 for Mac and have tried saving the file in 2004 format and 2008 format to correct the problem. Another issue is that if I try to alter an equation by clicking on it, Word seems to recognise it as a picture rather than opening equation editor. Some equations will still open, but others will not. There is no predicting which ones will work. Can anyone help me! Signed, frustrated Maths Teacher.

The Microsoft developers are working on this bug right now (this week).

They have asked me to get full details of your hardware: (You, and anyone
else who has this problem).

They are particularly interested in:

CPU Type

CPU Speed

OS Version

Memory installed

Hard disk free space available

Document type (.doc or .docx)

Any further details you can give.

If you have this information handy, please either post it here or email it
to me.

I am using a Mac OSX 10.4.11 with a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor with 512MB memory. I think I have about 72Gb of free memory space. I have tried both .docx and .doc saving methods. I hope this info helps straighten the bug.

Ah hah! I think you will find that you have insufficient RAM. You need a
GB of RAM to make this work properly.

I would try to borrow a stick of RAM and test it to make sure, but I suspect
that's what your problem is.

If you have to buy it, it won't be a total waste: your system will be
dramatically faster with a gigabyte of RAM in it, under OS 10.4. Even if it
doesn't fix the problem!

RAM is NOT the problem because I am operating Mac OSX 10.5.5 with a 2.8 GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4GB of RAM.

When using Equation Editor in Word saving as .docx, all of a sudden Word
gives two consecutive errors and some of my equations turn into un-changeable
images. This is really, really frustrating.

Well, that reply was NOT in response to your issue... which is totally
unrelated to the subject of this thread.

If you submit a New message stating all particulars - including the wording
of the "errors" & specifying your exact version of Office - perhaps someone
will be able to offer a response that *does* pertain to your situation.

Errrmmmm... "Well Documented" is not quite correct

This IS a bug, but sadly it has multiple causes.

There is a Service Pack due out very soon that contains the fix to two of
the causes. There may be more, including ones Microsoft does not know about
yet.

I think Gilbo's issues will probably be fixed by the upcoming update.

Rotschift appears to have a new version of the bug. I will look for his new
post and see if I can get a sample document from him.

I have a similar problem. Equations that I create with Equation Editor
cannot be re-opened as equations. When I double-click on them, I get the
Format Picture dialog. I have a Macbook Pro with 2 GB Ram and am using Word
2008 12.1.3.

Yeah, it's a known bug.

I thought the 12.1.3 update might contain the fix to it, but it didn't.
