Equation Editor

I customized my standard toolbar with Equation Editor. However the icon is "grayed out" and not able to use it. Is there a permissions problem?

It's "sort of" a permissions problem.

Word can create "Equations" only in "Text" areas of the page. If you have
your cursor resting on a picture, the equation button will grey out because
Word can't create an Equation there.
