The only way is to copy to the clipboard, paste into a graphics app. such as
Windows paint, rotate then paste back to Word. The resulting image can be
freely rotated, but not edited.

What version of Word are you using? Equation objects
can be rotated in newer versions.
How much of a rotation are you trying to have?
When pasting and using Edit=>Paste Special which
format did you choose for pasting?
