Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit is trying to track down the Equations as
Pictures Bug.
This bug affects Word 2008 (only). Sometimes, Equations get turned into
Pictures without user intervention. Which means you cannot edit them as
equations any longer.
Please read the next bit carefully:
There seem to be two forms of the bug: One where the document has been
edited on a PC, or created on a PC, or copied from a document that was
created from a PC, or created from a template that was created on a PC, or
contains text that was copied from a document that has been on a PC.
Let's call this "The PC Equations Bug".
The other, and much more worrying form, appears to occur for a document that
has been created in Word 2008, and never been anywhere near a PC, and has
not been copied from a document that has, and no equations in it have been
copied from a document that has been on a PC.
Let's call that the "Word 2008 Equations Bug".
Microsoft is looking for document samples that have suffered the SECOND bug,
the "Word 2008 Equations Bug".
They would also like to see documents that have suffered the first bug, the
PC Equations Bug, but that's not so interesting. They think they know what
causes that one, and they are working on a fix.
If you have documents that have bad equations, and have been nowhere near
the PC, please send an email to (e-mail address removed) with the ZIPPED document
attached. The reason I am asking you to send ME an email is so that I can
pass the attachment on to Microsoft. Attachments are disabled in the forum.
Note: If you don't zip the attachment, my spam filter will blow your email
away before I see it. If you send the email with any formatting, the spam
filter will probably delete that too: plain text emails have a much higher
chance of survival
In the email, please answer the following questions about the document:
1) How was the document created? (From a template, or from scratch?)
2) When was the document created?
3) Roughly what have you done in the document since it was created (i.e.
How long before the bug showed up)
4) Do you use any add-ins or haxies (e.g. EndNote, TypeItForMe,
Spellcatcher?)
Please ensure that your email comes from an address Microsoft can reply to,
and contains your full NAME The Microsoft testers are very busy: they
just don't have time to read anything they can't respond to because it does
not contain a real name and email address.
Note: I am not promising that Microsoft will respond to you. I am simply
saying they won't read any email they can't respond to. On the other hand,
*I* will respond to you as soon as I see your email, so if you do not get an
acknowledgement in 24 hours, please send again.
Oh: And if you have a question on a DIFFERENT issue, please post it in here
and we will get right on it for you... If you send it to my email, I'll
just delete it
