Equipment Resource

Using Project Server 2007. I want to create a resource for a piece of test
equipment and assign it to a task along with the human resource. How do I do
this and not show the equipment resource as having "work" like the human
resource?

Basically, you can't. Microsoft Project cannot distinguish between a Work
resource that is equipment and a Work resource that is a human. Some people
work around this by making the equipment a Material resource. Others work
around it by creating a custom enterprise Resource field that contains
values like Human and Equipment and then assigning a value to every resource
in the Enterprise Resource Pool. The PM's can then group by this field in
the Resource Sheet view with the Work table applies or the Resource Usage
view to get a true picture of how much work the Human resources are doing.
Just a couple of workarounds. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale. I think I tried using a Material resource before. The problem
was the task assignment for the resource did not show up in the view
assignments list. My goal is to see when the equipment is needed in a
enterprise list. Looks like I will have to use a Work resource and then
subtract the hours from the project remaining hours.
