err msg "word could not fire event"

After copying a user profile from one 2000 machine to
another 2000 machine I get a message stating that the user
has already opened that document and would they like to
make a copy. After you click yes, you get the error
message "word could not fire event". If you open any more
files in word you get the error message but nothing about
the file already being open. Also if I try to open a excel
spreadsheet it says the document is already open and I
will either have to rename the file or close the already
open file. I tried renameing it but it still says the
same thing. If anyone could help, thanks.
