Erratic scroll wheel behavior in Entourage 2008

Has anyone else noticed erratic scroll wheel behavior in the preview window
of Entourage 2008?

I find that the scroll wheel works fine in other panes of the main Entourage
window, but when trying to scroll an html-based e-mail in the preview pane,
the scroll wheel is mostly unresponsive.

The same message will scroll just fine if opened into a standalone window.

The same behavior is shown with a Mighty Mouse, or with a Kensington mouse.

Messages without complex html seem to scroll just fine.

I've noticed this also.

*However*--the problem is not with the scroll wheel, exactly. Normally
when you move the mouse over a message, the scroll wheel automatically
works on that pane without you selecting anything. With HTML messages, I
have to click in the preview pane to move focus to the HTML message, and
then the scroll wheel works fine.

Microsoft trackball, office 12.0.1, os 10.4.11, PPC.
