Erroneus version numbers

alan

I recently received via email a Word document with a version number
(e.g. BP Matter_V1.5). I opened the document by clicking on the icon
in the email (Outlook 2000). I subsequently closed the document then
reopened a while latter. At that point I saved it not noticing the
changed version number (BP Matter_V1.51). So now I had an erroneus
version number. Subsequently after some confusion with the original
sender, I did the open-close-reopen routine described above. The
document was now number V1.53. Why is this happening...it is very
disconcerting and playing havoc with my correspondence.

Thanks

Alan

The creator of the document must have put a version control in the document,
so everytime you open and change the document it updates the version. This
would seem the logical raison d'etre for a version control.
