Error 0x80042108 in Outlook 2007

I am using Outlook 2007 with a POP3 account. I keep getting Error Code
0x80042108 when I attempt to "send/receive" mail. I ran scanpst.exe on my
Outlook.pst file and it made some repairs, but the problem persisted. I also
deleted the POP3 account and recreated it along with creating a new Outlook
profile. These solutions did not help. I went into the Account settings and
attempted to "Test" the settings. I then received an error message that
Outlook could not connect to either the incoming or outgoing mail server.
Here's the interesting thing: I then created an IMAP account (same server
settings) and it works just fine. I deleted the POP3 account while I attempt
to figure this out.

I do have Symantec Endpoint. Given that, I disabled the Network Threat
Protection and the problem did NOT go away. I'd appreciate ANY help that can
be offered. Thank you.

Did you repeat running scanpst.exe against your PST file until it found no
further errors? Do you have a security suite installed? Does it integrate
with Outlook? Does your AV integrate with Outlook and actively scan
incoming/outgoing mail? Do you have multiple firewalls? Do the firewalls
autoupdate?

Kathleen,

Thank you for your response. Why would I keep running scanpst.exe until it
didn't find any errors? I thought I only had to run it once. I've never had
to run it more than once in order to fix a problem.

In regards to Endpoint, I don't know if it integrates with Outlook. I work
at a university and many coworkers use it and Outlook without any problems at
all. That is why I disabled the firewall. I don't know of any problems
people have had with Endpoint and Outlook. I simply do not understand why I
suddenly cannot send or receive email from a POP account. This is very
perplexing.

In the event there are many errors and/or corruption to the PST, scanpst.exe
may not be able to repair all errors in one pass. You would want to run it
until it finds no further errors.
Check your Outlook Add Ins to see what is integrated with Outlook. You can
disable them all and one by one add them to see if one of them has caused the
problem.
