Error 10043 on opening an XML Document

I am inserting "comments" via WordProcessingXL in a Word Table saved in XML
format with Track Changes turned on. Whenever I encounter a "Smart Tag" I
get the above error when I try to open the document. Turning off the Smart
Tags is not an option. The problem seems to be the insertion point of the
Word.Comment.Start Element in relationship to the Smart Tag.

Has anyone run into this problem and if so what is the fix?
