Error 1025 in Entourage X

Lynn Nelson

Hi,

I have recently been forced to return to dial up service with AOL.

I recently started using ENTOURAGE X to retrieve and send mail to AOL
accounts using IMAP. It seems to work alright in that I can send mail, but

EACH TIME I SEND MAIL I GET ERROR 1025 AND THE MESSAGE

.........................
The server returned the following error

Unable to add message to IMAP mailbox. The corresponding local folder will
be used instead.
.........................

AND THE SENT MAIL APPEARS AS SENT MAIL TO MY ENTOURAGE, BUT NOT IN MY AOL.
(I'M NOT SURE THAT IS SHOULD, BUT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO DISABLE THE ERROR
MESSAGE IF THAT IS POSSIBLE)

(e-mail address removed)

The error is coming from AOL. It's possible your folder is full. Do you
understand the difference between IMAP and POP? IMAP works by keeping mail
on the server. POP works by downloading your mail to your computer. Most
ISP¹s set an upper limit on the amount of mail storage you can use. You
closely monitor the space being used. Have you emptied your trash folder
lately?

You might consider converting your account to a POP account since you are on
dial up. It will be faster than using IMAP on dial up.

Unfortunately the more I investigate, I'm discovering that AOL does not
support SMTP.

I assume that this is an issue with either IMAP or POP. Though I have had
success changing the SMPT port to 587 when using IMAP.

So am I doomed to failure or the curse of this 1025 error message.

I am not aware of any other trash I can dump than what I already have.
(Entourage Trash @ OS Trash)

Perhaps the best solution for me at this point is to contact AOL TECH
support and see if they have a suggestion.

If you have any other suggestions I would be glad to hear them.

This must be old. See Accessing the AOL Mail System using
IMAP & Authenticated SMTP An Unofficial Guide

<http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/>

SMTP server: Enter smtp.aol.com.
Click on Click here for advanced sending options.

Check the box titled Override default SMTP port and type "587" into the
corresponding box.

Check the boxes titled SMTP server requires authentication and Use the same
settings as incoming mail server

Click on the Advanced tab (the Options tab settings are all optional).

Uncheck the box titled Store special folders on IMAP server.

Check the box titled Mark messages as deleted. The Purge choices are
optional if you don't want deleted messages stored on the server for a
limited period of time.

Upon clicking OK, Entourage will contact the server and download your
folders for you.
