After downloading the Word Security Update, when launching
MS Word 2000, Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Premium attempts
to update, but then recive the following two error
messages before Word does open.

Error 1309. Error reading from file:
X:\installs\o2k\pfiels\msoffice\office\word.pip. Verify
that the file exists and that you can access it.

Error 1309. Error reading from file:
X:\installs\o2k\pfiels\msoffice\office\1033\email.dot.
Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

The network drive is available and the files are visible
when browsing My Computer. This workstation is running
Windows 2000.

Please advise.

I found some documentation stating that this is a Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) error message.

Here's some standard Installer troubleshooting:

1) Uninstall Office.

2) You can troubleshoot an installer issue by downloading then running the MSICUU (Installer cleanup utility for NT based
machines - Win2000). It can be downloaded from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/office2000pro/util20/1/NT4/EN-US/msicuu.exe
The utility breaks the association between the app and the installer.

Be sure to read the documentation (and warnings) that goes with it.

3) Download the Win2000 installer from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...f9-2d36-4977-8fa1-6f8a0f5dca8f&DisplayLang=en

* If someone responds with a specific fix, try that first. What I listed is pretty general troubleshooting and could be risky due to
the use of the cleanup utility. I'd suggest backing up your registry before trying this.
