Error 1321: Insufficient Rights installing this patch

Alex Mastrando

Has anyone else ran into this one? I get an error 1321:
Office patch has insufficient rights to patch
finename.xxx.

I am the administrator of my WinXP Pro and was trying to
update my Office 2000 Premium Suite to SR3 when I got the
error.

I have applied all previous updates as they were released
using the Office Update Search engine on the Office web
site. This is the first time I ever saw this message
under XP. I was using NT4 so I am familiar with Windows
server products, as well as 95,98,98SE,ME,NT3 & 2000.

Can anyone provide some light on this one?

Thanks,
Alex P.S. Please reply to me at (e-mail address removed), I always
forget where I post my messages at <G>

Hi Alex,

If you are logged in as Administrator and have full
control access rights that one is a bit odd.

There could be some damage to the MS Installer or
some disk/file or registry glitches that need cleaning
up.

Did you shut down all other software, utilities and
antivirus when running setup?

Alex,

For what it's worth, I am getting the same message on WIN2K
machines, even though I am signed on as the Administrator.
Also have not had this problem with previous updates. I
have a query into Microsoft, but no response as yet.

I am going to try removing the patches & re-installing
them. I will let you know how that works out.

Ron
