I'm reloading the OS and all apps onto an older machine after a HD failure.
After reinstalling Win98SE, I secured and loaded all its updates and patches.
I then reinstalled O2K from the original CD (v9.00.2720), and downloaded
SR-1a. Upon the attempted loading of SR-1a, I received the following error
message:
"Error 1328. Error applying patch to file c:\config.msi\pt42a1.tmp. It has
probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this
patch. For more information contact your patch vendor. System error:
-1072807676"
"MSI (c) (D5:C5): Product: Microsoft Office SR-1 Premium -- Error 1328...."
This message was followed by an "Abort, Retry, Ignore" window, with the
abort causing a roll-back to the pre-upgrade state.
After reading numerous KB articles, I believe I may have found a cause of
the error message: The original Setup.exe was v9.0.2611. SR-1 requires
Setup.exe v9.0.3821 to complete its installation, which is contained within
the SR, and which the SR will load, provided it finds a copy of Setup.exe
v9.0.2611. The problem may stem from an interim version, 9.0.2720, which may
have come from some other update. But... all of this, and the work-around,
centers around using an administrative installation point-type installation,
versus a direct installation / upgrade via CD, and the two methods can't be
mixed! ("Use the Correct Version of Setup for Office 2000 SR-1,"

Do I have this right? Has anyone else run into this before? Is there some
way to apply SR-1 without going back to square one for the harddisk? Thanx
for any and all help!
